Analyses and investigations conducted are based on use of a FMEA. A FMEA relies on sound engineering principals and investigation as to potential failure modes and effects and symptoms which would be indicative of the failure observed. In addition, research is conducted to learn of other similar conditions and events which may have a bearing on determining the cause of the failure or which may be verified or discounted based on engineering analysis and experience. Experience of the investigator is brought to bear in the analysis of the situation.
In that regard, I have been a licensed Florida Professional Engineer for 35 years with considerable experience conducting due diligence investigations and failure analysis. I am a member of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers and am a Board Certified Building Inspection Engineer.
This methodology seeks to identify the root failure cause by examination of potential causes, symptoms, research, and simalarites with other like situations. See links to the right.
This FMEA process is applicable to investigation of failure situations. In addition, to roof failure and tile floor failure, it can be applied to water leaks, structural subsidance, sewer line failure, falling objects, fires, etc. I have successfully used this approach for over 800 investigations during in the recent past, particularly related to hurricanes.
